映画『Les Miserables』

映画名言を書いているので、これを機会にちょっと観てみるか、と観た映画の一つ。

100%期待せずに観た。

オープニングの大げさで、SFチックな映像に、これは漫画のような話にならないといいがと思ったし、ストーリーがいちいち歌で伝えられるので、進まないし、これは大変だと思った。

これはミュージカルなのか？・・映画でミュージカルと言えば、通常ダンスが伴うが、これにはない。だから、映画オペラみたいなもの？

ところが、次第にはまってきて、引き込まれてしまった。

音楽の力の偉大さに圧倒された。

イギリス版演劇 Les Miserables は、1980年代の初演から現在でも衰えることなく世界中で上演されているらしい。たぶん、劇は、映画よりも、さらに多くの人々を虜にする気がする。

とにかく音楽が圧倒的である。

本日、映画英語として記録したい言葉は、「I dreamed a dream in times gone by」。

(辞書を引くと「in days gone by」はでてきたが、「in times gone by」はなかった、同じ意味だろう)

この曲が流れ出したとき「おや」と思った。

Youtubeの有名な動画、スーザン・ボイルが「Britain's Got Talent」歌ったあの曲ではないか、と初めて知った。

ここでは、映画の中の映像では、あまりにも辛いので、Neil Diamond さんが歌っている映像をここでは掲載した。

Neil版は、最後が「can't kill the dream I dreamed」になっている。

やっぱり、Neilさんも本物は辛すぎたんだろうな。
