英語名言で朝活

笑うしかない。共感。
この言葉は、「マーフィーの法則」という本に世界的に拡散したことばらしい。

たぶん、マーフィーさん自身の言葉でなく、こういう笑い話がどこかにあるのだろう。

ところで、この日本語を英訳するとしたら、日本人の発想としては「The bread always falls with the buttered side down」と言いたいが、「on its buttered side」とあって新鮮だった。

英語はこういう柔軟な言い方ができる点が、ちょっとクールに感じる。

マーフィーの法則（Murphy’s law）

・The chance of the bread falling with the buttered side down is directly proportional to the cost of the carpet.
　(バター面が下を向いて落ちる確率は、たんにカーペットの値段に比例する)

・It will start raining as soon as I start washing my car, except when I wash the car for the purpose of causing rain.
　(車を洗い出すと雨が降る)

　(起こりうるなら、必ずそれは起こる)

　(生徒の成績が上がると生徒はほめられるが、落ちると先生が非難される)

　(宇宙には3000億の星があると言えば信じられるが、このベンチはペンキ塗り立てと言われれば指で確かめない人はいない)
